About Hafei
Officially the Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group Co Ltd., the Hafei Group is a large-scale Chinese manufacturer of passenger cars, small vans and trucks. It also manufactures a range of engines.
Hafei has its headquarters in Harbin, in the Heilongjiang Province. It’s one of China’s leading domestic auto makers, as well as exporting its vehicles and engines to a number of countries around the globe. The company is known especially for its “micro” vehicles, including the Hafei Lobo, which is a small city car, and the Hafei Loda, which is a small truck.
In 2004, Hafei merged with the Donggan Engine Company to form the Harbin Aviation Industry Group. In 2006, however, the group’s aviation and automobile divisions were separated, and the Hafei Automobile Industry Group was established.
The Hafei Group has its own research and development center. In addition, it has collaborated with leading international manufacturers and designers. Three of Hafei’s leading models – the Hafei Zhongyi, Lobo and Saibao – were designed by the Italian firm, Pininfarina. The Saima and the company’s 4G1/4G9 series of engines incorporated technology from Mitsubishi of Japan.
The HF Minyi (MinZ), HF Ruiyi, HF Baili and Songhhuajiang minibus and mini-trucks were designed and manufactured exclusively by the Hafei Group.
Currently the Hafei Group produces over 400,000 automobiles and 550,000 engines annually. Since 2010, it has been operating as a subsidiary of Chongqing Changan Automobile Company.
