The name “Nissan” originated as an abbreviation for Nihon Sangyo, meaning “Japan Industries”, a Japanese holding company founded by Yoshisuke Aikawa in 1928. In 1933, the company took control of DAT Motors – creator of the Datsun – and so entered the automotive manufacturing industry.
