About Porsche
Porsche was established in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche, in Stuttgart, Germany. The company began by providing design and consulting services, primarily to the German government.
One of the first cars designed by Porsche in this capacity was the iconic V39 Volkswagen Beetle. In fact, subsequent Porsche models inherited certain design features, including a rear engine configuration, from the Beetle.
During the 1950s and ‘60s, Porsche achieved global recognition, due largely to its successes on international race tracks. In 1964, Porsche launched the legendary 911. Since then, Porsche has focused on refining a comparatively small number of models, like the 911 and Boxster.
Porsche has maintained close relationships with Volkswagen and Audi, collaborating with both to release limited edition cars like the VW-Porsche 914.
In 2009, Porsche merged with the Volkswagen AG group. This automotive powerhouse controls several premium motor vehicle brands, including Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Ducati.
