About SsangYong
SsangYong Motor Company is a South Korean automobile manufacturer. It focuses mainly on SUVs, crossover SUVs and, more recently, electric vehicles.
SsangYong traces its history to two companies that merged in 1963 to become Ha Dong-hwan Motor Co., which manufactured buses, trucks and US army jeeps.
In 1984, the company, which had since changed its name to Dong-A Motors, was taken over by the SsangYong Business group. It was subsequently taken over by Daewoo, SAIC and then, in 2011, by Mahindra & Mahindra Limited.
In South Africa, SsangYong is distributed by Mahindra SA.
In January 2022, Mahindra & Mahindra sold SsangYong Motor to a South Korean consortium for $255 million.
