Pierburg began as a steel trader in Germany, in 1909. By 1928, the company was producing carburetors – and before long, Pierburg had become the sole supplier of carburettors to all German automakers, as well as to a number of international vehicle and engine manufacturers.
For well over 50 years, Pierburg remained a leading producer of carburettors. It also developed expertise in air supply, emission control, and throttle and solenoid valves.
In 1986, Pierburg was bought by the Rheinmetall Group, and in 1998, it merged with Kolbenschmidt to form Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG, or KSPG AG.
Today KSPG is a market leader in the manufacture and aftermarket supply of air supply and emission control systems, pumps, pistons, engine blocks and plain bearings. Its research and development division works closely with leading vehicle assemblers to minimise vehicle emissions and fuel consumption, and to ensure the reliability and quality of its components.
KSPG employs approximately 12,000 people worldwide and has production facilities in various locations in Europe, North America and South America, as well as in India, China and Japan.
